ADAPTATION AND PSYCHOMETRIC ASSESSMENT OF SRI (SPECIALIZATION RECREATION INDEX) IN SPORTSPEOPLE

Abstract

Sheila Romero, Ioseba Iraurgi y Aurora Madariaga

Due to the changes in sport habits that have taken place this decade, the recreational component has gradually gained preeminence over the competitive one. The practice of sports as leisure has extended to the overall population, which has led to a decline in the issuing of sportive licenses. It is thus necessary to approach competitive practice from the framework of different theories related with societal demands. Recreation specialization is a construct that analyzes the variety of participants who coexist in the same practice of leisure, segmenting them into different levels of specialization along a continuum. The SRI (Specialization Recreation Index) classifies participants based on their orientation, experience, relationships and commitment to practice. This research shows the adaptation and psychometric evaluation of SRI with a sample of amateur sportspeople with and without physical disabilities, presenting appropriate results that indicate that, in federated practice, a specialization recreation does occur in athletes, and that SRI can be used in competitive sporting contexts.
