Melchor Gutiérrez, José Manuel Tomás y Pablo Calatayud
The aim of this study was to analyze the relationships among adolescents’ perceptions of motivational climate in physical education (PE) class, students’ attitudes toward PE and their motives for practicing sport activities out-of-school. Participants were 428 students of ESO and 1st. Bachelor (54.4% boys and 45.6% girls) aged between 13 and 17 years (M = 14.56, SD = 1.47), which in addition to attending PE classes were participating in sport practices outside school. The sample was incidental and obtained through collaborators. The Perceived Motivational Climate Scale, the Attitudes toward PE Scale, and the Sport Motivation Scale were used. The data were analyzed using structural equation models with latent factors. Main results showed a significant relationship of mastery class climate with attitudes toward PE and intrinsic motivation for sport practicing, and performance class climate with extrinsic motivation and demotivation for sport practicing out-of-school.
