Abstract

The present article is about an investigation carried out in Valle Hermoso city, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and is related to the reasons why the adolescents are motivated to practice sports and also the reasons why they stop this practice. The inquiry was made through a questionnaire called study of the reasons to the practice of sports activites created and applied in other studies, by Juan Antonio Moreno y Pedro Luis Rodriguez of the faculty of education from the university of Murcia Spain administered in a previous research in the University of Murcia, Spain. the youngsters polled were 14 men and 16 women attending the School of Professional Studies of Vallehermoso part of theUniversidad Autonoma de Tamaulipas, their ages ranged from 16 to 18 years. The results indicate that the main reasons why the adolescents practice a sport according to cathartic reasons are: the fun that practicing a sport involves (90%) to release tensions and to relax (70%). Development Reasons: to improve their physical condition (76.6%), health reasons : to improve and take care of their health (76.6%). Whereas the main reasons to quit were: for health reasons (43.3%), difficulties to arrange the needed time or personal schedule (13.3%). And the social-affective reasons: to be part of a sport team.(76.6%) youngsters practice sports to have fun, to relax and to feel part of a group with common interests and because they worry about their health.
