The purpose of this research was to analise the effect size (ES) of exercise on cognition in elder people, focusing on moderator variables as type of study and other related characteristics, type of sample, exercise characteristics, type of cognitive test. It was meta-analised 44 researches about people elder than 50 years old that have been doing some kind of exercise. It was obtained 485 ES from 2266 subjects. There were significant moderator variables: sex, health status, kind of activity, intensity, sessions per week, time per session, group size and change on VO2. Those variables have moderation effects on exercise and cognition relationship. Conclusions: some kind of aerobic exercise, practiced at moderate intensity, 5 or more times per week, no more than 75 minutes per session; may improve cognition in people elder than 50 years old.
