RESIDENTÃ?â??Ã?´S PERCEPTIONS REGARDING MUNDOBASKET 2014 IN GRAN CANARIA (SPAIN) AND SUPPORT TO SPORT EVENTS CELEBRATION

The aim of this work is to analyse the perception of Gran Canaria (Spain) resident´s about the impact of Mundobasket (2014) and their predisposition to support the celebration of sport events on the island. A sample of 342 residents filled in 41 items questionnaire. Results showed that perceived benefits cluster in four different dimensions, while costs in three dimensions. The benefits in image and the city recognition showed the most salient positive results, while the worst negative impact was represented by the costs in the every-day life. Therefore, it was concluded that residents support the celebration of future sport events on the island. To conclude, the perceived benefits in image and the international recognition in socioeconomic, sociocultural and sport aspects, predict the predisposition to support sport events celebration in a positive way.
