In recent years the projection of volleyball worldwide has attracted attention to the study of the coach and the training process. However, the number of empirical studies investigating the perception of these professionals regarding their intervention in different domains is still scarce. Accordingly, and based in the coaching model, the purpose of the present study was to analyze the coaching knowledge and actions of the 24 coaches participating in the Brazilian Volleyball Superliga, within the competition environment. A semi-structured interview was used. The results indicated that the competition component comprised the instants before, during and after the competition, and the competitive period and preparatory competitions. Overall, the data indicated that the coaches were not only concerned with providing the athletes technical and tactical information but also with regulating their emotional and motivational state, always respecting them as individuals. The overall trends are primarily discussed in relation to existing research.
