ACUTE PHYSICAL EXERCISE, EXHAUSTION, SLEEP QUALITY, PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY INTENTION

The aim of the study was to determine how the implementation of an exercise session is related to psychological well-being (subjective vitality and affective state), sleep quality and physical activity intention. In addition, a secondary objective was to validate the scale of perceived exhaustion. 200 people participated in the study, aged between 14 and 70 years (118 men and 82 women). The results showed that the scale of exhaustion was valid and reliable. We also found a positive association between vitality, positive emotional state and sleep quality and a negative association between negative emotional state and sleep quality. After the exercise session, no significant improvements were found in the well-being variables. The perception of exhaustion was negatively related to well-being and was the only variable that negatively predicted physical activity intention. These results provide relevant information concerning the importance of acute exercise intensity in the prediction of physical activity intention.
