The aim of this study is to determine the motivational orientation in college athletes and to analyze the involvement of the gender, type of sport and competitive level variables. 83 college athletes participated (48 males and 35 females), aged between 19 and 26 years. For the evaluation of the variables questionnaires were used, one for sociodemographic variables, and another to assess goal orientations. The results indicate that college athletes are more task-oriented in their sports practices with the ego. When females and males are both oriented on the task, the females` levels are higher than males. Both individual and collective sport practitioners and level (local, regional, national and international) presented goal orientations involved with the task. The females, individual sport practitioners, and international level also scored higher on aspects related to the ego.
