The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between the type of passion, goal orientation, and performance in swimming athletes. Therefore, 115 swimmers participated in this study (n = 115), of both genders (65 male and 50 female), aged between 13 and 25 years (M = 15.55; SD = 2.30), participants in FINA’s competitions in four competitive levels (children, youth, junior and senior). For the evaluation of passion and motivational orientation, using the Portuguese versions of the Passion Scale and Task and Ego in Sport Questionnaire, respectively. To evaluate the performance of the athletes used the score of swimming rankings. The results showed a positive and significant correlation between harmonious passion and goal orientation to task (r = .24; p = .01), between obsessive passion and goal orientation to task (r = .21; p = .02), and between the two types of passion (r = .48; p = .00). It wasn't found any significant relation between the performance and the type of passion or goal orientation of the athletes.
